Long blog post alert! Sorry!
We’ve been lucky to have had an amazing winter so far this year, and for me it all started this past New Year’s Eve. Narrowly missing (by 24hrs) one of the first nasty storms of the winter, Cora-Lee and Darcy were lucky to have one of those movie perfect fluffy snowfalls everyone who plans a winter wedding dreams of!
The day started off by waking up early (Tuesday, December 31st, 2019), driving through about 8 inches of snow to Darcy’s folks house out in Val Caron, and spending some time with the guys who were “clanking” a few drinks together and making perfect apple juice cocktails (scotch look-alikes) for the younger ones. The guys got ready, looking awesome in their black-on-white tuxs. And before I left, we made sure to snap a few photos of Darcy taking some time to read a letter titled “Dear Future Husband”. Wonder who wrote that one?!
Cora-Lee had a suite booked at the Holiday Inn at the south end of Sudbury. Luckily the roads had cleared up enough so I could speed (no sorry, I don’t speed…I mean safely travel…) over there. When I arrived, the ladies had just finished getting their hair (by Rondez Vous Salon) and makeup (by Dana Lajeunesse) done.
So of course they all looked absolutely stunning!
The bride’s gorgeous dress was hung up, and the rings and flowers (and all those other details) were just waiting! The bridesmaids got dressed, each taking turns helping their best friend, sister, and beautiful bride get ready on her big day. It was time to get ready to walk down the aisle, but first… A letter from her fiancé was waiting to be read, with the words “Love you with all my heart, forever & ever & ever!!!” written on the back.
Then it was ceremony time! One of the only ceremony locations in the city that can make winter feel like summer is the Solarium at the Holiday Inn. With the vine filled wall and room full of natural light, it was the perfect place to exchange rings and say their I do’s! It felt like the fastest 20min ever! lol
Usually I like to travel to new remote locations for something extra special, but we didn’t have much time! We needed to take advantage of the beautiful fresh snow, and it was getting dark quickly. Luckily, Bell Park was just 15min away.
The trees were covered and it looked like a fairytale! I had checked the spot out earlier that morning and knew it would be perfect!
After doing bridal party photos and couples photos outside, we headed to Guilty Pleasures for a warm place to let the blood flow again and of course take more photos. Justine so graciously let us use her place on a night that most places were either closed or already booked for parties. It was so amazing! She even had balloons filled with confetti from a previous party there still. We couldn’t help pop a few (with permission) for that true new years feeling! Big thank you, Justine! That totally added something unique to their big day.
We also had a sparkler photo planned, and on our way out we only had about 5min to do it. I honestly didn’t think that would be enough time, but since it was a day of amazing moments, I was not surprised that it worked out! Scroll down to see how that one ended up!
Ok ok I know, “WRAP IT UP MIKE!”
It was just such a fun day that I can’t really cut many details out. So, last but not least, it was dinner and party time. All of which were held at Natura Catering & Events, decorated by the amazing Amanda and Shawn of Unforgettable weddings, and finally, hosted by none other than one of the best DJ’s, Big and Rich’s DJ (Ritchie Rich). We all know how amazing the food is at Natura (duh!) and what a party Ritchie can throw (duh!). Although I only stayed to photograph the first dance and the mother/son dance, I know Cora-Lee, Darcy, their bridal party, and friends and family partied from 2019 all the way into 2020.
Cora-Lee and Darcy, thank you so much for trusting me with capturing your big day. I couldn’t have thought of a better way to end off 2019. Looking through all these photos will always be such a great memory for me. Congratulations again to you both. 2020 was truly off to the best start possible.
