When these two ladies asked if I would capture their big day in Vancouver, my heart literally skipped a beat! I was so excited… I couldn’t wait to capture their new adventure together!
Using two cute Airbnb’s right beside each other, nestled in the Grand View Woodland area of Vancouver, Katelynn and Sharayah were able to get ready in ear shot distance of each other while still hidden until their first look.
I was lucky to spend the day before their wedding exploring with them. We checked out Stanley Park and found a beautiful place perfect for their first look the next day. It was extremely hot and sunny (two words not usually referenced with Vancouver), so finding a comfortable location was extremely important!
A private forest location in the shade made for the perfect place to witness the special moments held dearly to the both of them. They read their vows to each other, creating all sorts of smiles, laughs, and happy tears.
It was truly special!
We then made our way up to Squamish (Sharayah’s hometown) for an intimate mountainside ceremony at the Sea to Sky Gondola. They also had some special people come celebrate with them; Sharayah’s brother, Jakob, and Katelynn’s best friend, Kailey.
Both Katelynn and Sharayah are vegan, so the entire time I spent with them I got to experience the vegan life. They had vegan cake and a bouquet of herbs (rosemary, parsley, sage +more). This on its own was an adventure to remember. I do have to say though, the Saha Eatery (their wedding day dinner location) was absolutely tasty. I wanted to take it all home with me. To be honest, I now explore more vegan items on menus. My eyes have been opened!
With it being such a busy day, I usually forget to eat. So when the dinner-in-the-belly moment hits, I’m always ready to go to bed. Nothing a Caramel Macciatto can’t fix lol! My request to stop at a nearby Starbucks was unanimously accepted by everyone! Then we were ready for round two.
What wedding is complete without a first dance? …and a little trespassing?
Jumping railings at Porteau Cove (a place of fond memories for Sharayah), they danced away at docks end, boom box playing their favourite tunes, as the sun set behind them.
How fast the hours and minutes fly by… It was now time to say goodbye to their friends, BUT it wasn’t quite the end for them!
I had a few more things up my sleeve.
You’ll have to make it to the end to see all those photos though!
There’s no real reason behind them, Sharayah is actually scared of bears (and heights as we learned at Sea to Sky Gondola). It was more so just a fun idea I came up with that I knew they would enjoy. These paper masks (for these waste conscious ladies) were amazing. I thought doing a second first look with them later in the day would create some real laughs. I prepared most of the mask before I left Sudbury, but wanted them to have fun putting them together as a creative wedding project. The catch… they weren’t allowed to put them on until I told them they could. So the night before, they put them together and patiently waited. I know not being able to was killing them, especially Sharayah… Katelynn seems to be the disciplined one haha.
To end off the night, they wanted to cut the beautiful vegan cake they had ordered. Leaning towards a non-traditional way, I suggested they take the opportunity to eat cake in bed. Who gets to eat cake in bed on their wedding day?? So fun!! Wonder if this will be trendsetter lol?!
I told myself I wouldn’t make this blog too long… Sorry not sorry, but there was just way too much to say (and I even cut out a lot of stuff).
I’m going to end it off by thanking and congratulating Katelynn and Sharayah again. Spending time with the two of you was truly special. Not just on your wedding day, but before, during and after. I did not want to come back. Seriously. I really can’t thank you two enough for taking me along with you. Your wedding/elopement has created some truly special memories of my own!
Thank you and congratulations again!
…AND happy pride month!
