A lot of couples debate on whether to bring a local photographer to their destination wedding, or hiring the one at the resort.

There are so many pros and cons to both options, but the one that stands out most is making sure that you get along with them. It’s the one person you will be spending your entire day with. From getting ready, to all the party shenanigans at the end of the night. The more comfortable you feel with them, the more likely you will be relaxed, making your images look more authentic. This blog isn’t about what is best though (although one will be coming soon), this is about Katie and Shawn’s amazing destination wedding!

Just over a year ago, Katie and Shawn approached me about my destination wedding photography packages and they faced this similar question. Do we bring someone with us? Or do we hire down there?

In order to make it easier for them to decide, I suggested we concentrate on an engagement session and talk about that later. They knew they wanted one no matter what! I told them it’s important to make sure we’re a great fit and that they could make the decision after they got a feel of how everything went. I would then just discount my package as if they had got them together! I figured this would give them a little piece of mind.

Well… since this blog is about their destination wedding, and not their engagement… you know how that went! 🙂

After having a super fun engagement session, the wedding planning started full force. Katie and Shawn ended up choosing one of the newer resorts in Cancun, the Royalton Riviera Resort and Spa. Soooo amazing!! I don’t think they could have had a better spot!

With over 40 guests flying down for their special day, there wasn’t a dull moment at any point throughout the 7 days. With a couple days leading up to their wedding day it allowed everyone to enjoy the scenery, sun, food and of course, the drinks! It also allowed me to walk around (drink in hand, duh lol) to see where everything was going to happen and plan!

While they got ready in separate rooms close by, it allowed me to bounce back and forth easily. Making sure I didn’t miss a thing before they tied the knot at their roof top ceremony location. Overlooking the ocean, the view was just breath taking and the breeze made it very comfortable for everyone to enjoy this special moment!!

The day was non-stop from 9am to 11pm, with so much going on. I’d explain every detail, but I’m sure you’d all rather have the pictures do the talking….

One last thing… all my destination weddings include a complimentary Trash-the-Dress session (or a more ‘safe’ way of saying, In-the-Water-Session) on a separate day. You’ll see some of those at the end! Until then…

P.S. So many photos!!! Sorry… just couldn’t cut anymore out! lol

Now Let’s Trash that Dress!!!

(just a few more couples photos first)

Yesterday,  Katie and Shawn came for the viewing of all their photos. Spending a couple hours with them just reminded me of how amazing these two are and how much fun their destination wedding was! We watched both their slideshows twice, the second time being just as awesome as the first!

With every wedding I include a USB. Instead of ordering the same engraved display box for every client, I like to go out and buy something I think suits the couple and the style of their wedding day best. I then use a wax seal with my studio initials to personalize the “message in a bottle” USB itself.

I find customizing a package to each wedding adds so much more of a special and personal touch. Part of the excitement is seeing their faces when I show it to them. It’s always something they love!

Here is what I made for Katie and Shawn!
