It’s been a crazy busy wedding season for me, but I decided to finally take a little time to myself so I could post a way overdue blog about a fun project I was part of at the beginning of the summer.
In June, Crystal Provencher and I did a dance photoshoot in Toronto with Justin and Brittany. It was so much fun! After doing so many of them here in Sudbury, I was excited to get out and do one in the big city for a change of scenery. I was also excited to do a dance shoot with a female/male combo!!
Brittany and I have done a bunch of these, but for Crystal and Justin it was a first. Justin was always my go-to guy for hair, as he is one of the best hairstylists I’ve had a chance to work with. Justin is also in dance school, so when I contacted him about this project his first response was “Is this for hair?”. He was more than excited that it was to be in front of the camera instead of his usual behind-the-scenes role.
Crystal, an amazing travel/lifestyle photographer (website, Travel IG, Lifestyle IG) reached out to me about setting something up together. I couldn’t have been more happy to take the trip down to work alongside her on this project.
We walked around the city’s core for hours, both in the evening one day and the morning the next…Camera gear and bags of different outfits in hand. We spent a lot of time just walking around using different places, but a few planned stops were Graffiti Alley, the Eaton Centre, and U of T. With only one evening and one morning to shoot, we didn’t get to do all the ideas we had (poses and locations), but this was still a good start!
Crystal and I had a lot of similar images since we were shooting together pretty much the whole time, but we both had our own specific “one shot” we needed to get!
My personal favourite was “Books, Ballet and Old Rock” (at the end of the blog). It was a shot I had in mind as soon as we started talking about this project. What amazes me most about it is that people in the6six didn’t even flinch. The only person that actually seemed to be interested was the one guy checking out what book Brittany was “reading” lol.
Another favourite from the day was Crystals light trail photo (also at the end of the blog). A “composite shot” of Brittany and the cool lights and cars downtown! It was nice being her light stand and watching the vision come to life.
Check it out!
